White PapersConcurrent Use Permits  On a network, you probably want to allow more than one user to run CaseFinder at the same time. Rather than requiring the purchase of a complete CaseFinder system for each additional user, we sell concurrent use permits at a significantly reduced price. Each concurrent use permit allows one additional user to run CaseFinder simultaneously with other users.   To get the permits, start CaseFinder, go to Help > About > Permits and call us. We confirm how many permits you want and how long you want them to last (and who's going to pay for them). You read us a code number from the Permits screen and we read you back a code number, which you type in. CaseFinder then generates the permits.   If no concurrent use permits are installed, even if all of the databases had been transferred to the hard drive(s) on the file server, the CaseFinder CD must still be in an accessible CD drive for the program to run. Thus, if you decide not to get any concurrent use permits, you will want to have the CaseFinder CD in the CD drive on the file server instead of the workstation. Go to the application folder, open up the paths.txt file and delete the drive letter of the CD drive in the workstation from which the installation was performed. Add the drive letter or UNC path to the CD drive on the file server as it is seen by the workstations on the network. Save the file. Take the CaseFinder disc out of the CD drive on the workstation and put it in the CD drive on the file server.   If you're a subscriber, a new pair of disks will show up about the 20th of each month. Each pair of disks completely replaces the prior month's disks.   If you installed concurrent use permits on your system, put Disc One of the new set in the CD drive on the workstation from which you performed the installation and run CaseFinder. It will recognize the new CD and ask if you want to update the system. If so, click Yes if any databases on the hard drive of the file server have been updated, it will automatically copy the new material, prompting you to switch disks when necessary. If you don't want to update right now, put the prior month's disk back in.   If you're not using any concurrent use permits, then you should have set up the system to access the CD drive in the file server. In such case, put the new Disc One in the file server's CD drive, start CaseFinder and the same automatic procedures will be performed. <=-Back |
