Concurrent Use Permits

When CaseFinder is installed on a network, right out of the box without buying anything more, every user on the network can access itbut only one user can use it at a time. Thus, if only a few people on the network will need to use CaseFinder and/or if no one will need to use CaseFinder while someone else is using it, there's no need to purchase anything additional.

If more than one user is to be able to run CaseFinder at the same time, you'll need one or more concurrent use permits. Each concurrent use permit allows one additional user to run CaseFinder simultaneously with other users. In other words, purchasing and installing one permit will allow two people to use CaseFinder at the same time; purchasing and installing four permits will allow five people to use CaseFinder at the same time.

To get the permits, start CaseFinder, go to Help > About and click on the Permits button. Then call us at (800) 457-6045. We will confirm how many permits you want and how long you want them to last, and we'll confirm the payment method you will use. Then you read us a code number from the Permits screen and we read you back a code number. You enter the code number and click Create and CaseFinder will generate the permits.

A concurrent use permit provides an additional benefit, because it "frees up" one or more CD drives. When CaseFinder starts, it normally checks to see if the CaseFinder CD is in the CD drive, even if all of the databases had been transferred to a hard drive (see Databases). With no concurrent use permits installed, if the CaseFinder CD is not present in an accessible CD drive, the program will not run. This behavior enforces the terms of the CaseFinder license agreement.

With one or more concurrent use permits installed on your system, you will not need to have the CaseFinder CD in the CD drive for the program to start. Of course, without that CD in the drive, you won't be able to access its databases unless you had transferred them to a hard drive.

When the expiration date of a concurrent use permit is two weeks or less away, a message will start appearing each time you start CaseFinder, alerting you to the fact that time is running out. Note also, that if you are an annual subscriber and you are using concurrent use permits, we will send an invoice for annual renewal that includes a renewal of those permits. When you cut us a check, thank you very much, we will keep on sending those monthly discs, but it is up to you to call us to renew those concurrent use permits.
