Importing Synonyms

Jump straight to the Va. Code synonyms
Summary

These basic steps will lead you down the path to synonymous nirvana. Before proceeding, please ensure that no users are logged into the Casefinder software while you are performing this procedure.

Guided Walk-Through

First, check for the existence of a "thesaur.dat" in your Casefinder root directory. This ".dat" file is a plain-text file which contains Casefinder's Va. Code Synonym list. Before proceeding, please ensure that all of your Casefinder users have exited and are not using the Casefinder software during this process.

Double click on the "My Computer" icon on your desktop. Navigate to where your Casefinder software is stored. Check that a file entitled "thesaur.dat" exists.

With this completed, we will begin editing the file in "notepad".

From your start menu select "run...". In the box presented type in "notepad". Notepad will appear on your screen. On the menu bar select "File" and then "Open" from the menu that appears. Navigate to your Casefinder's root directory - and open "thesaur.dat".

Click on this link to open up a text file containing the Va. Code Synonyms (hint, in Internet Explorer you can open a second window by holding down the 'shift' key while you click on the link). Copy the contents of this file and put it at the end of your (already open) thesaur.dat.

Open the code synonyms list, and select all of the text (either manually, or by pressing the 'ctrl' key and the 'a' key at the same time). Copy the text by right clicking on the selected portion (usually blue) and selecting the "copy" option. In the window containing 'thesaur.dat', and put your cursor at the end of the last line in the file and press the enter key. Paste the contents of the code synyonyms list into your thesaur.dat (either by right clicking at the beginning of this new line and selecting paste - or by pressing the 'ctrl' key and the 'v' key at the same time).
